How upgrading your kitchen can increase your home’s value

Taking a cheap kitchen and making it look expensive, is an art mastered by Niki and her team.

The Requirement

My husband and I brought our house in 2010 and started the journey of updating the house from its 1980 décor. The picture to the right is our Kitchen the day we moved in, a decent Kitchen but was not in keeping with the décor across the house nor functional in the placing of cupboards and utilities.

best-10-inch-sliding-compound-miter-sawWe decided to rent out our house and at short notice were looking for someone who would come and fit the new kitchen. I contacted Niki at Niki Nana through recommendation; I was asking Niki to get someone to fit the Kitchen the following week.

With no hesitation Niki was at our house that night for me to talk through the requirement and the quote was with me by the following day.

The Solution

I had already designed and ordered the kitchen using the Ikea Kitchen planner, thankfully Niki knew the plasterer that I use and worked with my electrician of choice, making a complete team that could communicate well amongst themselves. The kitchen was stripped by me, the plasterer came in on the Monday evening, Niki and her team were in for the rest of the week to complete the Kitchen.

The interesting thing working with Niki and team is their ability to see the urgency in getting the job done and completing it around other commitments.

The Outcome

The outcome from Niki and team was a cheap Kitchen installed to a highly polished standard, the worktop connections were of a craftsman’s finish, the silicone beading was immaculate and the small finishing touch solutions above the fridge and choosing to use the cabinet plinth instead of new skirting board, created a seamless look all the way around the room. The fine woodworking was crafted beautifully by Niki and her Festool Kapex KS 120 miter saw (according ot her the best rated miter saw available today)

For every person that has visited the house they have been astounded by my value R8000.00 Kitchen from Mr Price Home. Thanks to Niki and team they have helped me to understand that the quality of finish comes from within the hands of a trusted craftsman and not by the expense spent on the product.

In total we have spent R20,000 on the Kitchen, flooring, extractor fan and cost of labour with Niki and team.

The Future

Since the work done on the Kitchen we have had decking fitted in the Garden and Niki Nana are responsible for all DIY on our rental properties. Ther has seen them fit new fencing after the storm, a new shower screen, custom made cupboard doors, a hand rail on the stairs and re-silicone the bath.

I have recommended Niki to my Father-in-law and 3 friends. Alongside ther Niki is in mind to help with a complete re-fit to my father’s flat in Steyning and will support my husband and me in our new venture of renovating properties. We would not hesitate to recommend to anyone and would insist you get in contact with him now, if you are looking for someone who will guarantee a quality finish, has a man that can tackle every house hold task from general DIY to extensions and will provide an honest service.

If we ever decide to sell our home (which isn’t likely to happen soon), staging our home won’t be hard work with ther beautiful new kitchen.

Many thanks to all at Nikinana and here is to more work.

Keep your soil healthy to sell your home fast

Keeping your soil healthy is an important part of overall instant lawn care. Healthy, good quality soil can take a long time to develop naturally, but can be destroyed in a single planting or through neglect.

Landscaping For Healthier Soil

If you’re concerned about the quality of your soil and its effects on your garden, the best results can be achieved through making gradual changes over time and by using a proper irrigation system. If your soil frequently collects standing water, which can encourage weed growth and lead to erosion, digging a trench in the lowest spot and installing a drainpipe that leads down-slope can improve drainage. You should also aim to ensure that wet soil is avoided and not subjected to foot traffic, as this will lead to packing that restricts water flow and plant roots from establishing.

Fertilising Your Soil

There are many products available from turf suppliers that can improve the quality of your soil, depending on what you’re hoping to achieve. For sandy soil, adding compost can increase nitrogen levels, and organic fertilisers are recommended over chemical products for all types of seed-grown and instant lawns. You should always follow the instructions on the packaging when applying fertiliser, and tilling your soil when it’s dry can reduce clumping

3 Benefits of Wooden Garage Doors

There are a lot of things to consider when building a new home or remodeling an old one. You think about the overall style and functionality of the whole house, including the garage.

Wooden garage doors remain as a popular choice for many families. Aside from being a true classic that never goes out of style, wooden garage doors has a lot of benefits.  Out of all its great points, this article focuses on three: durability, customization, and eco-friendliness.

I can recommend the following Pretoria Garage Doors supplier:

Benefit #1: Wooden Garage Doors are Durable

When properly installed and maintained, wooden garage doors can last as long as steel garage doors. There are technologies that have been developed to prevent rotting, bending, and any distortion once installed. Wood is built to stand against scratches, scrapes, and even dents.

If your area often experiences harsh weather, wood is a good option as well. It can resist harsh weather and climates.

Benefit #2: Wooden Garage Doors can be Customized

One of the best things about garage doors is its customization options. Many homes are built in different shapes and sizes, and it can be a challenge to find garage doors that would fit. Wooden garage doors can be custom built to fit perfectly with the garage, making this the ideal choice for homes with non-standards shape, uneven floors, and distinct arches.

For a style-conscious homeowner, wooden garage doors are ideal as well. There are a lot of styles and types of wood that are available. Wood carvings can also be done to make the design more interesting.

Benefit #3: Wooden Garage Doors are Eco-Friendly

If you’re concerned about the environmental impact of choosing wooden garage doors, you don’t have to worry. Wood is a natural element that is a renewable and sustainable resource. It’s the perfect choice for eco-conscious homeowners. Manufacturing wooden garage doors takes less resources than its alternatives.  When time comes that a replacement is necessary, you don’t need to worry about it causing pollution when disposed. Wood can be recycled so it won’t end up taking space in landfills.

Some wooden garage doors available are also made from reclaimed wood, so there’s no need to cut any more trees. It’s best to ask if the manufacturer practices eco-friendly activities. Some would also make doors that are energy efficient and great for insulation. These options can keep the heat in during winter, and contain the cool air conditioning during summer. Make sure to speak with a reputable garage door company in Pretoria to help you with your installation.

Should You Hire A Moving Company or Move Yourself?

When it comes to moving, many people get stuck when it comes time to decide if they should hire a moving company. There are numerous factors that go into this decision when planning furniture removals. You have to consider the distance, money, time, difficulty and complexity of the move.

moving house

It would not be difficult to move from one small apartment to another across town. However, moving from house to another across the country may be a different story. Sometimes self-moves make sense and other times it’s not the best decision. In order to make the right choice, you need to weigh your options.

So, before you begin to make this decision, you need to prioritize. What is more important, when it comes to your move, time or money. Knowing the answer to this question will help guide you to the best decision about hiring a mover.

How Far Are You Moving?

You can go online to a moving truck rental site and get the rates for renting a truck. You’ll need to know whether you will be returning the truck to the original rental location or if you are dropping it off in another city or state. This can affect the rate. A one-way rental can be 50 percent more.

In addition to the truck rental cost, you also have to estimate the gas cost and the price for mileage. Most truck rental companies charge a fee for every mile you go over a certain amount. A distance calculator can provide an estimate of how many miles you will travel to reach your destination. You can use this information to determine the mileage costs, as well as the estimated fuel cost.

Now, you can call the moving companies. Ask them for a quote based on the number of rooms and the distance. Many will insist on coming to your home to give an accurate estimate because the cost of moving is often determined by the amount and weight of your items. You have to determine if you want to have the movers come to your home.

Some companies offer online quotes, however, these quotes are not guaranteed and may not be accurate, depending on the number of household items you plan on moving with a relocations expert like Active Transport. The only way to get an accurate estimate is to have a mover come to your home.

With an estimate for a moving company in hand, you can compare it to the cost of renting a truck. If the actual cost was the only factor, then your job would be done. However, this is when you need to remember that time was the other factor. If you need to move quickly, you must determine if you would be able to pack and load your truck in time, and if you would have the time to unpack it when you reached your destination.

Here are some questions you should ask yourself before making a decision.

  • How much time will I need to pack my things, load them into the truck and drive to my new home?
  • Do I have people who can help me? Are there any friends, family members or neighbors available? Are there people I can pay to help me?
  • Do I have special or fragile items that need special care? Can I move these myself? How much will it cost to hire someone to pack them up and move them?
  • Do I need additional equipment or supplies in order to move larger items like appliances?
  • Am I confident that I can move everything safely?
  • Do I know the hidden costs that may creep into my moving expenses, like additional supplies, moving expenses, parking fees, and travel costs?

No matter wich moving method you choose make sure you save all of your receipts, in case you can claim your move on your taxes.

Stainless steel vs aluminum balustrades

Fixing balustrades is a superb way to add elegance and splendor to your home. Apart from giving your home a new look, it prevents people from falling over balconies, edges of stairs, landings, etc. due to the allure balustrades provide, many homeowners are looking for the best type that will suit their particular needs as well as the feel they are looking for. Balustrades are commonly made out of wrought iron, timber, regular iron, glass, aluminum, concrete, or stainless steel. A reputable balustrading company will help you to increase your home’s value.

In this article, however, we will discuss the differences between the aluminum and stainless steel balustrades.

Visual Appearance

When we talk of visuals, the decision to go with aluminum or stainless just boils down to personal preference. Some people say that aluminum loses its luster over time. This, however, can be attributed to the quality of the aluminum that was used to create the components. The low density and cheap aluminum materials will not sustain its beauty the same way high-quality aluminum will. Stainless steel, on the other hand, has a clean and timeless look that will impress you whether on a residential or a commercial setting.

This is one of the most important factors to consider before choosing the right type of balustrades. This is because of the reliability, safety and property value over time factors. Both aluminum and stainless steel are very durable. Stainless steel, however, is popular for its ability to stand extreme weather elements making it a popular choice for those who live near water, or areas with heavy snow or blistering sun. Aluminum, on the other hand, is also a good choice because of its strength and the fact that it doesn’t rust because of its powder coating. It is also suitable for all weather conditions.

The maintenance of balustrades is also another important factor when thinking of the material to use. Aluminum balustrades come in beautiful, powder-coated finishes which protect the railing while requiring little to no maintenance over the years. You, however, might want to hose them down from time to time, but apart from that, they will retain their beauty and allure without much work. Stainless steel balustrades are also essentially the same. They do not require much care and will maintain their strength over time. However if you live near the coast, stainless steel is not recommended. This is because the salty sea air makes the steel have some “tea stains” that make it look like its rusting.

Aluminum balustrades are usually more affordable than their stainless steel counterparts. It is, however, important to note that this does not mean that they are of lower quality.
Having these facts in mind, you will have an easier time choosing the material you think is best for your balustrades.
